This song was written with a clear, strong message. At the time, both Sherry and I were going through break ups and discussing relationships, boyfriends and how people can compromise themselves too much. I like to think that I'm a strong girl and Sherry is an incredibly strong woman. We both agreed: you can't change this girl!
lyrics
CAN’T CHANGE THIS GIRL
Don McLeod, Ali Milner, Sherry St Germain
There's a place where I lost my senses
Where my heart got caught in the trenches
I don't know how we got here
Hangin' 'round with the broken-hearted
Shoulda stopped before we got started
It's hard letting go, Dear
But you think I say too much
You think I laugh too loud
You can't change the world
And you can't change this girl
If I let you down
Why do you keep coming 'round
If I let you down
Why do you keep coming 'round
Hold me close and we'll kiss goodbye
Trying hard to make myself cry
Cause I know that you're worth the tears
I can't be somebody I'm not
And it's only gonna get harder, so I'll go
I really think that we're done here.
Cause you don't like my hair
Don't like the clothes I wear
Going through the things that you gave me
Found a note that said, “Loving you is easy”
I guess you were wrong
Searching for the storybook ending
Read it fast, you chapter is burning
I guess you weren't that strong.
